Among the wide range of beauty products available, there is one product that is often missing from consumers’ skin care routine. Often unknown or considered an “optional” product, the toner/lotion is nevertheless a must when it comes to facial care. Indeed, its role is to tone the face and cleanse it, eliminating impurities and dead skin cells. In addition, it helps to tighten the pores and firms the epidermis.
One lotion, many uses
When the toner/lotion is used in the morning, upon waking, it removes the excess sebum that has accumulated on your face during the night. Your face will then be perfectly cleansed and ready for your morning beauty routine (creams, makeup, etc.). When the toner/lotion is used in the evening, after your make-up remover and before bedtime, it completes the work of your make-up remover by cleaning what the latter has not succeeded in removing from the epidermis. Your face will then be perfectly cleansed and ready for your night cream.
Faced with so many benefits for the skin, one question remains: how to choose the best toning lotion and how to apply it optimally in order to obtain all the benefits?
The different toner/lotions available
To know which of the toning lotions is ideal for your skin, you obviously need to know your skin type at a minimum. Is it dry, normal, mixed or oily? However, in the event that your skin has specific conditions, it is important to pay close attention to them. Indeed, there are toner/lotions specially adapted to the particularities of certain skin conditions, such as:
- Skin with imperfections and/or shine (pimples or blackheads, caused by hypersecretion of sebum);
- Sensitive and delicate skin, which is prone to irritation. Hypersensitive or intolerant skin, which is prone to redness
- Dehydrated skin that feels tight, lacks radiance and vitality;
- Skin with uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation;
The right application, for an excellent result
Obviously, for optimal results, it is important to apply the toner in the right way. In fact, two techniques are recommended, depending on whether you would prefer to use your hands or use a cotton round to apply toner:
• Application by hand
Apply the toner/lotion with your hands, from the inside of the face outwards. Spread the lotion by gently touching the skin and then tapping it, while creating a suction cup effect with the hands. With this suction cup effect, this will allow you to help oxygenate your epidermis so that it can perfectly absorb the lotion.
• Application with a cotton round
Apply the toner/lotion with a cotton round, also from the inside of the face outwards. Gently tap the cotton round while gently touching the skin to stimulate it. It is important not to rub the skin to avoid irritation.
A product with many benefits
In addition to the many benefits listed, did you know that applying a toner can help prolong your moisturizing products? Indeed, once the application of your toner is finished, apply your serum or cream while your skin is still damp. The latter will thus be able to better absorb the product and use a smaller quantity! Happy beauty routine!
